How this series is computed

  • Each week, we compute every covered constituent's trailing P/E and P/S from its SEC filings and that week's closing price, then record the median. Half of constituents trade above the median, half below.
  • The P/E median only counts companies with positive trailing earnings, so its constituent count runs lower than P/S. Both counts are stored per week and shown next to the data, never assumed.
  • Coverage approximates the S&P 500: index constituents plus curated megacaps, 474 US large caps today. Early weeks have fewer names because some constituents listed later.
  • The headline percentile ranks the current weekly median within the full history since 2016, using the same math as every stock page on this site.
