The earliest usable valuation date can be later than the earliest share price. A ratio needs both price and comparable financial statements.
A spin-off can move revenue, debt and shares between businesses. Applying the parent’s old earnings to the new company’s price creates a ratio for a business that never existed in that form. A ticker that has been reused or relisted needs the same care.
GE Vernova (GEV) and SanDisk (SNDK) are useful starting points for this check. Open the quality note and actual start of available history. Do not assume an old ticker or a long price feed supplies a continuous standalone earnings series.
Stock splits change per-share quantities without changing total equity value. Spin-off distributions can change the business itself. A calculation must align historical prices with the shares and financial facts available at that time, and truncate noncomparable history when a clean bridge is unavailable.
Our rank requires at least 26 usable weekly readings within the last five years after the quality gate. If only two years qualify, the percentile uses those observations within the trailing five-year window. It must not be described as five complete years of evidence.
A snapshot-only page is different. At our October 22, 2026 review, GlobalFoundries (GFS) had current market-data context but no ranked historical series. Adding more price points alone would not repair the missing fundamentals history.
The methodology explains filing-date reconstruction. The missing-percentile guide explains why a usable current ratio can still have no historical rank.
